Product Description

What are Calcium Silicate Ceiling Tiles?

Calcium Silicate Ceiling Tiles are premium, high-density architectural panels specifically engineered for overhead suspended ceiling systems. Made from a heavily compressed matrix of siliceous and calcareous materials reinforced with natural fibers, these tiles are cured in an autoclave under high heat and saturated steam.

Unlike traditional ceiling materials that rely on paper facings or soft mineral wool, our ceiling tiles are 100% inorganic. This means they offer absolute Class A1 fire protection and will never sag, mold, or degrade, even when exposed to continuous moisture or extreme humidity.

Why Choose Them Over Gypsum Ceilings?

Gypsum (drywall) ceilings are common due to their low cost and ease of cutting. However, they are highly vulnerable to moisture, leading to dreaded “ceiling sag” and mold over time.

Here is why commercial contractors upgrade to Oguards Calcium Silicate Ceilings for demanding environments:

Performance MetricCalcium Silicate Ceilings (Oguards)Standard Gypsum Ceilings
Moisture & Sag Resistance100% Sag-Proof. Immune to humidity and leaks.Absorbs water, softens, sags, and supports mold.
Fire ClassificationClass A1 (Non-Combustible). Zero toxic smoke.Class B1 (Paper facings will burn).
Durability & LifespanPermanent. Hard surface, resists impacts & pests.Fragile. Easily punctured or damaged.
Cutting & InstallationRequires power tools (due to high density).Easy to cut with a simple utility knife.
Long-term ROIHigh. Maintenance-free, never needs replacement.Low. Frequent patching and replacement needed.

Where are They Best Applied?

Because they do not warp or degrade under harsh conditions, Calcium Silicate Ceiling Tiles are the mandatory choice for spaces where gypsum fails:

  • High-Humidity Zones: Underground parking garages, commercial kitchens, indoor swimming pools, and public restrooms.
  • Sterile & Medical Environments: Hospital corridors, operating rooms, and pharmaceutical cleanrooms (can be repeatedly washed and disinfected).
  • Heavy Commercial Spaces: Shopping malls, subway stations, and industrial factory floors requiring extreme fire safety and longevity.

7-Step SOP for a Fail-Proof Suspension System

Whether you are installing 600x600mm drop-in tiles or large seamless flush boards, a heavy-duty light-gauge steel suspension system is mandatory. Contractors must strictly follow this 7-step engineering protocol:

  1. Laser Leveling & Chalk Lining

Determine the exact ceiling elevation. Snap horizontal chalk lines around the room perimeter and mark the precise grid layout for the main keels.

  2. Hanger Rod Installation

Use φ8mm galvanized threaded steel rods. Fix them to the structural concrete slab using φ8 expansion bolts.
    Spacing: 1200mm – 1500mm intervals.
Wall Clearance: The first rod must be 200mm – 300mm from the wall.
Note: Pre-coat all welded joints or exposed steel with anti-rust paint before hanging.

  3. Main Keel Assembly

Install heavy-duty UC38 light-gauge steel main keels. Secure them to the hanger rods using matching hangers. Level the main keels meticulously, ensuring the locking nuts leave about 10mm of excess thread exposed for safety.

  4. Perimeter Edge Keels

Fix 25x25mm L-shaped baked-enamel edge keels along the perimeter wall using cement nails. Fastener spacing must not exceed 300mm. (Ensure wall surfaces are puttied and leveled prior to fixing).

  5. Secondary T-Grid Installation

Install secondary keels perpendicular to the main keels. For standard drop ceilings, space them exactly at 600mm. Ensure all cross-grid intersections are dead-flat without staggered heights or large gaps.

  6. Board Mounting

Gently drop the 600x600mm tiles (square or tegular/half-embedded edges) into the grid. Always install sequentially. Do not force boards into tight grids.

  7. Final Cleaning

Upon completion, wipe the entire ceiling surface with a clean cloth to remove silica dust, smudges, and fingerprints prior to client handover.

How to Prevent Seamless Ceiling Cracks?

(Contractor’s Best Practices for Large-Format Flush Ceilings)

When using large calcium silicate boards (e.g., 1220x2440mm) to create a seamless, flat painted ceiling, standard gypsum drywall techniques will result in joint cracking. You must adhere to these dry-construction rules:

  • The Double-Layer Backbone: For maximum stability against building vibration, do not screw panels directly to the steel keel. First, install a 5mm plywood backing layer (coated in fire-retardant paint), then adhere and screw the calcium silicate board over it.
  • The “L-Shape” Corner Rule: Never join two separate boards at a 90-degree corner. The corner ceiling piece must be cut into an “L-shape” or “T-shape” from a single, solid board. This prevents corner stress from tearing the paint.
  • Staggered Joints & 3mm Gaps: Adjacent boards must be installed in a staggered (brick-bond) pattern to break continuous straight seams. Crucially, leave a 3mm expansion gap between boards. Fill this gap with flexible joint compound before taping to dissipate structural stress.
  • Whole-Board Hole Cutting: When installing recessed lighting, HVAC vents, or sprinklers, the cutout must be located entirely within a single solid board. Never cut a hole across a joint seam, as it ruins structural integrity.
  • The 3KG Load Limit: Calcium silicate is heavy-duty, but the ceiling grid has limits. Any chandelier, air-conditioner, or equipment weighing more than 3 kg must be hung on its own independent suspension rod attached to the concrete roof—never directly onto the ceiling board or keel.
  • Strict Rust Prevention: Use countersunk screws. Dot every single screw head with anti-rust paint, apply a layer of putty, and then sand it flush. This prevents iron oxide bleeding through the final white ceiling paint.
